India’s and Mumbai Indians star batsman Surya Kumar Yadav has joined the squad in Mumbai ahead of their first game of the season against Delhi Capitals which is an evening game Sunday.
Surya Kumar was out of action after the third T20I against West Indies where he got a thumb fracture. He was also ruled out from India’s next series against Sri Lanka and was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for rehabilitation.
He recovered from the injury recently and was quick to meet up with the Mumbai Indians squad at the team hotel. Surya Kumar was seen posing alongside the Five glorious IPL trophies that the Mumbai franchise has won over the 14 years of the Indian Premier League.
Former Indian batting master Sunil Gavaskar said that IPL 2022 is a great opportunity for Surya to cement his place in the Indian team going forward including the T20 World cup in Australia later this year.
“It has been a wonderful last couple of seasons for Surya Kumar Yadav and IPL 2022 is a great opportunity for him to cement his place in the Indian team by performing well again this season,” Gavaskar said in his statement ahead of Mumbai Indian’s first game. “The Indian team for the T20 World Cup will to a great extent be decided on IPL performances. So, Yadav has got this great opportunity to enhance his chances to be picked in the squad that flies to Australia,” He further added.
Surya Kumar Yadav was one of the four players to be retained by Mumbai Indians along with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard ahead of the IPL 2022, Surya was retained for Rs.8 crores.
It will be a big season for Surya Kumar Yadav as he is now a senior player and will be looking to cement his spot in the Indian team limited over setup with T20 World cup and 50 over World cup is just around the corner.
