The BCCI fired the national team selectors following India’s semi-final exit from the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup. Reports had already come out that the sectors would be dismissed if the Indian team did not perform well in the T20 World Cup held in Australia. The BCCI fired five people, including chief selector Chetan Sharma.
The following are the three main reasons why the BCCI fired all national selectors:
1. India’s exit from Asia Cup in the league stage.
In the Asia Cup, they won two of two games in the group stage but only one of three games in the Super 4 round. India was humiliated after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 round.
2. India’s exit from T20 World Cup in Semifinal.
In the T20 World Cup, they won 4 out of 5 games in the Super Stage round and finished as group toppers. However, the Indian team lost miserably against England in the semi-final.
3. Rushed Jasprit Bumrah’s return & his fitness.
Jasprit Bumrah could not compete in the Asia Cup due to a back stress fracture. Bumrah did not fully recover from his injury, but he was named to the Indian team for the Australia T20 series, South African T20 series, and T20 World Cup. Unfortunately, Bumrah sustained another injury and was forced to withdraw from the T20 World Cup squad.
