The Indian squad for the West Indies series was announced today and the captain is Shikhar Dhawan. Rohit Sharma, Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will all be rested. Some people get too much rest, but that is not the point. With the addition of Shikhar Dhawan as the captain, the number of captains of the Indian cricket team will be eight in six months in 2022.
This will be an achievement that no other cricket board has. They can take this along with the criticism that there is no consistency in team selections.
The year began with Virat Kohli leading India in a Test series against South Africa. KL Rahul captained India in the ODI series against South Africa.
Rohit captained India in the series against Sri Lanka and West Indies. Rishabh Pant became the captain in the T20 series against South Africa. When India went to Ireland, Hardik Pandya became the captain. Finally, Bumrah became the captain of the Test against England.
Apart from this, Dinesh Karthik was the Indian captain in 2 T20 warm-up matches. With Dhawan becoming the captain, it will be six months and eight captains.
There are still six months left. The fate of Indian cricket remains to be seen whether we will see new captains.
